Program Director
Dr. Colin Shapiro MBBCh, BSc. (Hon), Phd, MRCPsych, FRCP(C)
Professor Shapiro is a recognised world expert in the field of Sleep and Neuropsychiatric Disorders. He graduated from The University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. Subsequent to this he moved to Edinburgh where he completed his PhD in Sleep Physiology. During this time, and whilst obtaining his Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, he set up the first sleep research unit in South Africa –The Wits Sleep Lab – which is still a vibrant academic hub. He was instrumental in setting up, and was the founding president of The British Sleep Society.
In 1990, Colin Shapiro was appointed as Professor of Psychiatry at The University of Toronto, Canada. He has published widely in the scientific literature and has authored and edited numerous books and chapters. He was the founding president of the International Neuropsychiatry Association. He is Editor of the Journal of Psychosomatic Research and sits on the editorial board of several other peer reviewed publications.

Dr. Joseph Barbera, MD, BSc (Hon), FRCP(C), DABSM
Dr. Barbera is a sleep specialist and consultant psychiatrist with practices in both adult and pediatric sleep medicine. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario school of medicine and completed his speciality training at the Univerisity of Toronto. While he has published papers on a number of sleep related topics, he has a particular interest in the historical aspects of sleep and dreaming, and has has recently published a paper on theories of sleep and dreaming in Greek and Roman philosophy.

Robyn Stephens PhD, C.Psych
Dr. Stephens is a clinical neuropsychologist, Director of Sleep Research and Neurobehavioural Studies at the Youthdale Paediatric Institute of Neuroscience, an assistant professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine University of Toronto, and an affiliated Scientist at the Toronto Western Research Institute, University Health Network. She is alos a medical expert in the field of Pediatric Brain Injury.
Dr. Stephens completed her clinical PhD from the University of Toronto, and received Ontario College of Psychologist licensing. Dr. Stephens completed two post doctorate fellowship training programs through the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine, focusing on Child Psychiatry, Psychiatry Health and Disease.
